Amir Khan to fight Danny Garcia in Las Vegas July 14th
22/05/2012
Amir Khan will fight Danny Garcia on July14 in Las Vegas, according to his twitter account.
He was originally due to fight Lamont Peterson in a rematch for the WBA and IBF light-welterweight titles. However that fight fell apart when the Washington fighter failed a drug test.
Khan wants his previous titles back and is relying on boxing authorities to reinstate them.
In the meantime he will stay ring sharp with a fight against the undefeated Garcia. Garcia has 23 wins and 14 knockouts.
Khan will be looking to get back to winning ways after his defeat to Peterson, in only the second defeat of his career. Even before Peterson tested positive for testosterone in March his fight with Khan was plunged into controversy.
Khan disputed a points deduction made by the referee Joe Cooper. Khan and Golden Boy Promotions his U.S.representatives, also claimed one fight judge changed his seventh round scoreline in Peterson’s favour.
Khan and his team complained to the IBFand WBA to have the result of the fight annulled. Khan and Peterson were scheduled for a much anticipated rematch until the failed drug test scuppered plans.
A hastily arranged bout with Garcia will see the Bolton fighter take to the ring this summer after all. One more stop,he will be hoping, on the way to world domination.
