England win their seventh home test series in a row
27/05/2012
England’s winter struggles have been cast aside in the sunshine of a British summer. Seven home test series victories in a row, with the latest coming at Trent Bridge against the West Indies, ensure England go into the series with South Africa as the top test side in the World.
South Africa will be a far tougher test when they arrive on these shores later in the summer. Andrew Strauss’ side have done all they could to maintain their status as number one in the World. An accolade that will be up for grabs against South Africa. If South Africa win that series they could topple England at the summit of test cricket.
There is more cricket to be played until then. A series of one day internationals and a T20 match will see England very busy until they face Graeme Smith’s team.
But with all eyes on South Africa, Captain Strauss may wish to rest his seamers. Jimmy Anderson, Stuart Broad, or both, could be rested for the final test with the Windies.
The West Indies were plucky yet again in defeat, the team's sixth in their past eight Tests which was their first ever defeat at Trent Bridge. It also offers the potential danger of falling below New Zealand to eighth in the Test rankings. If they are defeated in the third test at Edgbaston.
England have a lot on their plate before facing mighty South Africa. The last foreign team to win a series against England at home back in 2008. Andrew Strauss and his team will be looking to extend their run to eight series in a row and maintain number one test status in the World.
