Indian Premier League Weekend Preview by Elliot Cutter

10/05/2102

As another weekend arrives, so does another weekend of fantastic Indian Premier League action. Four games in total over Saturday and Sunday, each promising to be as exciting as ever and full of high quality cricket. Competition promises to be fiercer than ever as the final stages of the tournament arrive.

To begin the weekend of action, the Kolkata Night Riders take on Mumbai Indians in Kolkata at Eden Gardens. The game begins at 11:30 BST and Kolkata will be looking to continue their four game win streak and remain top of the table going into the final few games of the League. With everyone playing well for Kolkata it looks like they might pick up the win. The Mumbai Indians will also be hunting for a win as they are currently third in the League and will be looking to maintain their position. The Indians are on good form, winning four from the last five games they have played with the “big” players such as Lasith Malinga really starting to perform.

This match will be followed by Chennai Super Kings versus Delhi Daredevils which begins at 15:30 BST at the M.A.Chidambaram Stadium. Chennai will be desperate for a win and two points as they are currently in sixth position in the league, losing three of their last five IPL games. The two points they need would most likely take them into the top four which is where everyone wants to be in order to qualify for the finals. On the other hand, Delhi are second in the league on 16 points. They have won four from their last five, however they slumped to defeat in their last game which was against league leaders Kolkata. The two points would be vital to them also, in order to maintain their strong position.

Sunday’s coverage of the IPL begins with Rajasthan Royals against Pune Warriors India, with the game starting at 11:30 BST from the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Rajasthan have had a very inconsistent season in this year’s IPL and it shows in their last five games, winning two and losing three. They just can’t seem to keep up a good run of form, which has ultimately shown why they have slipped to fourth in the league. Although they are in a strong position, the question is, can they hold it? Pune Warriors are on a terrible streak at the moment, losing all five of their previous games with poor batting and bowling performances. Currently eight in the league it would be a miracle if they win on Sunday, let alone finish in the top four.

Following this game, there will be the Kings XI Punjab up against the Deccan Chargers at 15:30 BST. The game will be played at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali. The Kings XI are currently lying fifth in the table and would move closer to fourth position with the two points from a win here. They have won two and lost three of the last five games, performing very inconsistently throughout. It has been a tough season for Deccan, bottom of the table with five points and they have only won two games this season. Doesn’t look very good for the Chargers this season, it will be an upset if they win against the Kings XI for sure.
