Ricoh Womens British Open 2012

12/09/2012

Thursday signals the start of the 2012 Women’s British Open golf tournament sponsored by Ricoh. The event will take place at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club beginning on Thursday with the final round as always, on Sunday.

It’s a great chance for Britain and indeed the whole world to witness the growing quality of Women’s Golf. Spectators will be treated to four days of top class golf featuring the best players in Women’s golf at this present moment in time.

The one to watch is most definitely 15 year old New Zealander named Lydia Ko. She comes into this year’s championship having won the 2012 US Amateur Championship and becoming the LPGA Tour’s youngest ever winner at the age of 15 years, 8 months and 2 days. At the moment she is the brightest talent in all of Women’s Golf and could even make the jump to one day possibly playing on the men’s tour, following in the footsteps of Anika Sorenstam.

Also, many Korean female golfers will be present at Royal Liverpool such as Yani Tseng who has been World Number 1 for 83 weeks now. Women’s Golf seems to have grown massively in Asia over the past years and it continues to grow at a faster rate than the Men’s game.

Yani Tseng will be looking to win her 3rd British Open in a row at Royal Liverpool after winning in 2011 and 2010. However, the female tour is decorated as being very competitive and many will be looking to gain the title this year. Players such as Ai Miazato and Suzann Pettersen who are also in the Top 10 rankings will look to capture the Championship over the weekend.

It will definitely be a great showcase of Women’s Golf at Royal Liverpool, one thing that is not certain, is who will be partying on Sunday night as the new Ricoh Women’s British Open Champion.
