The Adcocks are seeded second for the BWF Superseries event as they look to improve on a career-high world ranking of fourth in August and break into the top three for the first time.

They overcame the challenge of Korean pair Kim Duk Young and Kim Hye Rin in the first round with a 18-21, 21-14, 21-18 victory.

The pair are now favourites to win the tournament after China's top seeds Zheng Siwei and Chen Qingchen withdrew.

The Commonwealth Games mixed-doubles champions had to settle for bronze at the World Badminton Championships in Glasgow after losing to top seeds Zheng and Chen of China 21-15 23-21 in the semi-finals at the Emirates Arena.

They did claim Great Britain's first World Badminton Championships medal in six years however.

World number one Son Wan-Ho, meanwhile, is gunning for a title on home soil and a first major tournament win since May.

The 29-year-old, who also won bronze at the World Championships in Glasgow, will have been buoyed by the withdrawals of second and third seeds Lee Chong Wei and Viktor Axelsen, leaving Chinese Taipei's fourth seed Chou Tien-Chen as likely his toughest opposition.

Chen Long and compatriot Lin Dan are not competing at the event.

In the women's singles, Japan's newly crowned world champion Nozomi Okuhara will fancy her chances of further success but will face tough competition from world number one Tai Tzu-Ying and India's Olympic silver medallist P.V. Sindhu.
