India's PV Sindhu and South Korea's Son Wan have kept their VICTOR Korea Open hopes alive and well by securing progress to Friday's quarter-finals at the World Superseries tournament.

Olympic and World Championship silver medallist Sindhu saw off the challenge of Thailand’s Nitchaon Jindapol 22-20 21-17 to set up a last eight encounter with Japan’s Minatsu Mitani, a former World Championship bronze medallist and French Open winner.

The World No. 4, who claimed at the World Championships in Glasgow just last month, was beaten by Jindapol at the Syed Modi International last year but had too much power and precision on this occasion for the World No. 16 and will now be confident of at least making the semis in Seoul.

Men's World No. 1 Son Wan, meanwhile, was forced to dig deep to dispatch another Indian shuttler in the form of Parupalli Kashyap. The match lasted for one hour and 16 minutes before Korean emerged victorious - 21-16 17-21 21-16.

The 29-year-old's path to his first title since May of this year is clearer than it could have been following the withdrawals of second and third seeds Lee Chong Wei and Viktor Axelsen.

Wan, who won bronze at the World Championships in Glasgow, will also be hoping to take advantage of the absences of Lin Dan and Chen Long at the event.

The Korean ace will face India's Sameer Verma in the next round.
