Serbia starts its quest for back-to-back Women's Eurobasket titles against Greece in their Group C showdown at Prague's Kralovka Arena.

The Balkans won their maiden crown two years ago in Budapest after defeating France 76-68 in the final. Ana Dabovic was named tournament MVP after scoring 25 points in the gold medal game.

The Dinamo Moscow guard is back to lead the Serbians in their title-retention bid along with fellow Eurobasket All-Star Team member Sonja Petrovic and Jelena Milovanovic. The three players also led Serbia to a bronze medal in last year's Rio Olympics.

New head coach Stefan Karadzic also named Rio veterans Sasa Cado, Tamara Radocaj, Nevena Jovanovic, Sara Krnjic, Dragana Stankovic and Aleksandra Crvendakic to his final roster. Also making the cut were Maja Skoric, Tina Jovanovic and Sanja Mandic.

Serbia booked a ticket to Prague by finishing runner-up to Ukraine in Group D of the qualification tournament.  Greece also reached the main draw as among the top second-placed teams in the qualifiers. They finished runner-up to Russia in Group F with a 4-2 record.

Back to lead the Greeks are 2009 Eurobasket MVP Evanthia Maltsi and Styliani Kaltsidou, the team's top scorers in the qualifiers. Head coach Kostas Keramidas will also count on Artemis Spanou, Afroditi Kosma, Iouliti Lymoura and Aikaterina Sotiriou to deliver in the absence of mainstays Zoi Dimitrakou and Olga Chatzinikolaou. Also absent is naturalized guard Nikki Avery.

Other players in the team are Eleanna Christinaki, Maria Fasoula, Angeliki Nikolopoulou, Anna Spyridopoulou, Anna Stamolamprou and Evanthia Maltsi.

Greece, which placed 10th two years ago, defeated Belarus and Ukraine to win the Patras tournament to prepare for the Eurobasket. They also split their two friendlies against Italy in Rome.Back to Top
