Spain battles Latvia in the Eurobasket Women quarterfinals in Prague on Thursday.

Spain and Latvia are both aiming to reach the Eurobasket Women semifinals when they square off in Prague. 

The Spaniards automatically advanced to the quarterfinals by topping Group A. They opened the tournament with easy wins over Hungary (62-48) and Ukraine (76-54) before losing to host Czech Republic (63-67) in a non-bearing game.

Two-time European Player of the Year Alba Torrens and WNBA veteran Sancho Lyttle are the one-two punch of the Spaniards, who won a bronze medal in this competition two years ago. Torrens averaged 16.3 points and 4.3 assists in the group stage while Lyttle put up 16.7 points and 10.7 rebounds.

Head coach Lucas Mondelo will also count on Marta Xargay, Anna Cruz and Laura Nicholls. 

Latvia, meanwhile, stunned defending champion 75-70 Serbia on Tuesday to reach the quarterfinals. Center Anete Steinberga dominated the shaded lane with 18 points and 11 rebounds. 

The Baltic side won despite losing star guard Elina Babkina to injury early in the game. Her status for this game is uncertain.

Steinberga is expected to get support from , Kitija Laksa and Gunta Basko-Melnbarde as they aim to reach the medal round of this competition for the first time in a decade. 

Head coach Martins Zibarts could get another spark from Kristine Vitola, who topscored with 19 points against the Serbians. 

Spain has won its last five meetings against Latvia in this competition. They last played each other in 2011 with the Spaniards posting a 66-57 victory in Katowice. Lyttle had 16 points and nine rebounds in that game while Babkina paced the Latvians with 17 points.
