With no love lost between these two neighbours, we are in for some enthralling action. Are India peaking at the right time or can the Tigers roar?

India had a dream start to the tournament by handling their now-routine bashing to Pakistan. Sri Lanka brought India crashing to earth by humbling the favourites in their next encounter. Faced with a do-or-die battle against South Africa, India summoned their A-Game to come up trumps.

As Virat Kohli keeps reminding, this Indian side has some exceptional match winners. If they execute their plans well India is a tough cookie for any side, let alone Bangladesh. Shikhar Dhawan loves ICC tournaments in general and England conditions in particular. His partnership with Rohit Sharma makes them a potent force. Add to that Kohli’s ability to rise his game in crucial encounters and you know why India is favourites.

Their bowling too is a force to reckon with Bhuvneswar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah reveling in the conditions. The spin attack is not off the mark either, with Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja giving them an edge.

Bangladesh are a revelation in the last couple of years and are now one win away from their first final in a major tournament. It is an achievement for Bangladesh after having qualified for the tournament in sixth place – their highest ever ranking. An impressive win over New Zealand coupled by some fortuitous rain interventions for opponents propelled them to the semis.

The gains from the World Cup 2015 – where they reached the quarters – are quite visible. The core of the team in Tamim Iqbal, Shakib al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim continue to excel and lead the charge for Mashrafe Mortaza.

The biggest question though is their consistency as volatile performances cast a shadow on their aspirations. On their day though, the Tigers can topple any side, which makes them a threat for India in this match.Back to Top

Line-ups and Key Players

India went with just two regular seamers against South Africa. Bangladesh struggled against their seam bowlers in the warm-up match, which may sway Kohli’s decision. Mohammad Shami could get a chance in place of Ashwin.

Do not fix something that is not broken – Bangladesh may retain the same team that defeated New Zealand.

Form & Stats

India hold a 26-5 edge over their opponents across 32 games played so far. In neutral venues, the record reads 6-1 in favor of India with the lone loss coming on that fateful 2007 World Cup encounter.Back to Top

Predictions

India gave a hiding to Bangladesh in the warm-ups before the tournament. Considering that and the fact that they are in form, it is no surprise the bookmakers make the ‘Men in Blue’ heavy favourites.

India’s opening pair looks more stable than that of Bangladesh, which puts them in prime position to score more in the first 15 overs.

Another interesting pick is on the total number of sixes. At odds of 5/6, backing the sixes to be under 11 looks a smart option.
