There is no surprise in England reaching the semis but there is an air of excitement over Pakistan making it this far. The flamboyance and inconsistency of the visitors make them a potent threat.
There never has been an England side that evoked as much excitement as this one. Under Eoin Morgan’s captaincy, England has been playing with so much aggression that even the opponents admit they have no chinks. Even they find some, the talent and depth of this side makes them almost invincible.
Ask Bangladesh who thought 300+ is a target good enough to pressurize the hosts. Ask Australia who restricted them to 35/3 in a chase of 277. In both these matches, England found a way to victory and with ease. The margins of victory in all the three games have been so comprehensive that it is difficult to see them lose to Pakistan.
Pakistan have already shown in the tournament that they can excite and exasperate in equal measure. If their opener against India showed how bad they could be, the game against South Africa was a testimony to how brilliant they could be. The crucial virtual quarterfinal against Sri Lanka saw the men-in-green play well only in patches and scrape through by the scruff of their neck.
The introduction of Fakhar Zaman to the side has given them better starts but batting still remains their Achilles heel with no one eager to play the sheet anchor role. Bowling looks to have sorted out with Junaid Khan and Hassan Ali forming a potent duo.
Line-ups and Key Players
The only question for Morgan is the form of Jason Roy but the confidence shown in him by the management could mean another game. Steven Finn is waiting in the wings and Jake Ball could feel the pressure.
Fahim Ashraf replaced Shadab Khan and the seam all-rounder had a decent debut against Sri Lanka. This English side has looked the most comfortable of all teams against spin and Sarfraz Ahmed may be tempted to retain Fahim.

Form & Stats
England won 20 out of 27 matches played in the last year. More importantly, they won 11 of their last 12 matches with their only loss coming against South Africa with a second string side.
Pakistan have a not-so-flattering 10-10 record in 20 matches they played in the last year. In England, they have won three of their last eight matches but two of those wins have come at Cardiff.
Against Pakistan, the hosts have a 49-30 record in 81 matches while at home it improves to 26-14 in 41 matches. This transformed England side has played Pakistan nine times in the last two years winning seven. One of their losses incidentally came at Cardiff.

A Pakistan win comes at odds of 5/2 but that is unlikely despite their record at Cardiff making good reading. England look well placed to progress to the final but are short at 1/3.
The firepower at England’s disposal and their propensity to score boundaries make them favourites to score more fours.
Another interesting but exciting pick is on player scoring a century which is definitely worth exploring.
