Alaves have suffered three losses in their first three outings of the new league campaign and host Villarreal in a poor spell of form, sitting rock-bottom of the table ahead of Matchday 4. However, all of those defeats were narrows ones and they did make FC Barcelona work for their victory when they came to town

The Babazorros have been beaten by both Leganes (1-0) and Celta (1-0) in two away games, whilst also suffering a 0-2 loss at home to Barcelona, who had to wait until the 55th minute to break down their fellow Copa del Rey finalists of last season.

Villarreal seemingly come into the match in better shape with a 3-1 home win over Real Betis now behind them but their form away from home has been nowhere near as promising. They suffered losses at Levante (1-0) and even more convincingly at Real Sociedad (3-0) prior to the Betis win.

Nonetheless, they’ve returned to a fine goalscoring form and we do feel they’ll put on a quality challenge and get on the scoresheet. Indeed, both sides have been making many defensive errors and Luis Zubeldia’s men could have to outgun the visitors to secure the points.

Interestingly, Villarreal have secured just one win and one draw in the sides last seven head-to-head encounters, with five losses also on the record since 2002. Alaves beat their visitors on both occasions last term, bagging a 0-2 win on the road in November 2016 and a 2-1 win at this ground in April 2017.
