Derby play host to Birmingham this weekend seeking a return to winning ways after losing both of their last two outings. After demolishing Hull City 5-0 at home a fortnight ago, the Rams failed to capitalise on that morale boosting win as a 3-2 defeat at Barnsley next time out saw them exit the EFL Cup before they were felled again by Bristol City in the Championship (4-1) last weekend.
County manager Gary Rowett said he was 'embarrassed' by his side's second-half surrender against Bristol after leading at the break at Ashton Gate.
"We have got to develop an underdog mentality away from home, rather than thinking we can just turn up and pass opponents off the park,' Rowett said after the game.
"We conceded three poor goals at Sheffield United and four more today. I wasn't happy with our defending for any of them.
"From the start we failed to match Bristol's intensity or handle their forward play. At half-time I told the players they would need to do much better because we had ridden our luck to be in front.
"It seems that when games are going nicely for us we are fine, but we have to be far more resilient."
It will be interesting to see how the Rams react to that assessment when back on home soil and if they can take advantage of the recent turmoil at Birmingham, who this week sacked manager Harry Redknapp following a six game losing streak.
A 3-1 defeat at home to Preston North End which left the club second-bottom of the Championship was the last straw for City's board, who undoubtedly want to avoid a repeat of last season's scrape with relegation (which Redknapp save them from after replacing Gianfranco Zola).
Former Blues and Republic of Ireland midfielder Lee Carsley has been placed in temporary charge of the first team and he'll have his hands full in trying to orchestrate a win here as Birmingham have managed to score just three times in the last seven fixtures.
