About Juventus FC

Juventus were founded as Sport-Club Juventus in 1897 by a group of students in Turin but were renamed as Foot-Ball Club Juventus two years later. In 1900, they joined the Italian Football Championship and had to wait just five years before winning their first league title wearing their world renowned black and white striped kit. The club had originally worn pink and black but were inspired to change this style by English side Notts County and that look has now become synonymous with the club.

A split at the club in 1906 set Juve back for a number of years and ultimately resulted in the founding FBC Torinese (later Torino F.C.) which in turn gave rise to the Turin derby (Derby della Mole). The following years, which included the span of the First World War, were a period of rebuilding.

When FIAT owner Edoardo Agnelli took control of the club in 1923 and helped to pay for the construction of a new stadium, a second scudetto wasn't long in coming (1925-26).

It was in the 1930s, though, that Juve established themselves a real force in the Italian game as they became the nation's maiden professional club and first to expand their supporter base far beyond their immediate locality.

They won five consecutive Italian championships and their squad formed the backbone of the Italy squad that won the 1934 World Cup.

Their move to Stadio Comunale was hoped to bring with it ever more dominance in the domestic game, however, 'The Old Lady' instead experienced a dry spell after 1935 as they failed to lift a single scudetto for the rest of the 30s and the entire 1940s.

It wasn't until the 1949-50 season that Juve got back on the winning track. They were successful again the following term and with Welshman John Charles won a record 10th league crown in the 1957-58 campaign.

There have been no lean decades since then with the Bianconeri winning three titles in the 60s, five in the 70s, four in the 80s, three in the 90s, and nine since the turn of the century.

That leaves the club with a record 32 Serie A titles to their name. On top of that, the famous club also boasts 12 Coppa Italia triumphs from 17 final appearances.

Success has not been limited to domestic competition either, with Juve winning the European Champions' Cup/UEFA Champions League on two occasions, whilst they've progressed to the final of that prestigious competition nine times.

French legend Michel Platini Platini scored the winning goal of the 1985 European Cup final against Liverpool for their maiden European Cup success.

World Cup winning coach Marcello Lippi guided the club to their second European Cup in 1996.

Famous Players

There have been no shortage of world class players to don the famous Juventus FC shirt down through the years. Roberto Baggio scored 78 goals for the club in 141 appearances between 1990 and 1995, while French icon Zinedine Zidane also made a phenomenal impact in Turin during his time there (1996-2001) before being sold to Real Madrid for a then world record fee of around €77.5 million.

Gianluigi Buffon, Fabio Cannavaro, Andrea Pirlo, Paolo Rossi, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Michael Laudrup, Liam Brady and Allesandro Del Piero are just some of the star names who have contributed to Juve's greatness.
