The Billy Goats went on to win the title for the second and last occasion in the 1977/78 season and by that time Bayern Munich had established themselves, along with Borussia Mönchengladbach, as a formidable force in the division. Munich went on to dominate the German top tier and are currently the winning most side in the competition.
