New York RB host local rivals New York City FC on Thursday in a mouth-watering US Open Cup clash at Red Bull Arena.

New York Red Bulls will host New York City for their US Open Cup 4th round clash hoping to bounce back after a disappointing and narrow loss at Montreal Impact (1-0) in their last outing. While getting through to the next round will be no easy task.

The Blues do come into the clash in a somewhat better shape after they’ve earned two wins and a draw in their last four games, with just a 3-1 loss at Atlanta United also on the record. They sit just outside the Eastern Conference top 2 with four points behind 2nd placed Chicago Fire, but their away form is nowhere near as promising and we don’t feel they can build on the tally here either.

Their win at Orlando City was only their first in last four games on the road and we have also seen a draw at Dallas (1-1) as well as losses at Real Salt Lake (2-1) and already mentioned Atlanta in the process. Meanwhile, the Red Bulls have had their home form intact despite the slip-ups on the road and we’ve seen them five wins and two draws in six matches there this term.

While we can now build on the success in front of the home fans, we’re surely in for another exciting game of football in New York and going for Over 2.5 goals FT does seem a banker bet at 8/13. Four of both sides’ respective last five outings have ended with three or more goals scored and this does feel like another such occasion in the making, despite the high stakes involved.

New York City have never earned a win at this ground with three straight losses since their first head-to-head encounter back in May 2015.

They’ve earned their first and only win over the rivals in July 2016 but Red Bulls soon returned the favour, beating them 4-1 in their most recent clash.
