Valencia travel to San Sebastian for their Matchday 6 clash at Real Sociedad having enjoyed a solid start to the campaign and looking to build on their impressive 5-0 thumping of Malaga at Mesalla on Tuesday night.

That results means Los Che boast two wins and three draws from their opening five fixtures of the new term and currently occupy one of the UEFA Champions League qualifying berths in fourth position in the standings.

A top four finish had come to be expected by the Valencia faithful since the turn of the century, until of course a downturn in club fortunes in recent seasons and they'll be hoping that their current position is a sign of things to come under manager Marcelino.

The 52-year-old was full of praise for his charges, who notably took a point from their trip to the Bernabeu where they face champions Real Madrid last month (2-2), after their midweek clash.

"We’re really pleased, and I’m tremendously proud of the players’ attitude, how they‘re playing as a team, the ambition they’re showing; we’re really happy and pleased to enjoy it alongside our fans," Marcelino said after the game. "Today, we had the cutting edge, luck and performance to put five past them. This doesn’t mean we‘re going to score five goals every week."

He added: "We still got a lot of work to do. I think the fact that we got the win with nine points in the table, our five-game unbeaten run, and the credit that these players deserve; having already played against Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, I think it’s worth mentioning, and I don’t mean anything other than we must keep the same humbleness knowing that if we want to be a great team, we’ve got to keep showing it."

Simone Zaza scored a seven-minute hat-trick in that Malaga clash and Valencia will need him to be on song once again against a Sociedad outfit who only trail their visitors on goal difference and boast a game in hand.

La Real kicked off the campaign with three straight wins before being undone by Real Madrid on their home turf last time out and will surely present a tough challenge for Los Che.

Real Sociedad boast a four-match winning streak in their head-to-head encounters with Valencia since January 2016, with nine goals scored in the process.
