Roma v Udinese (14:00 BST Saturday)

Roma’s response the 3-1 home defeat to Inter Milan has been emphatic – they have followed up a 3-0 victory over Hellas Verona with a 4-0 rout of Benevento to get their title challenge back on track, but it must be said that they will face much tougher challengers down the line because those two clubs currently sit in the bottom three. However, that tougher challenge will not come on Saturday afternoon because they are taking on an Udinese side that have lost four of their first five games. The visitors have been scoring goals, but a ropey defence has cost them dear and that spells trouble for them against a Roma side that has netted seven times in two games. Back the home side to get the job done here and become the first side to keep a clean sheet against Udinese this season.

SPAL v Napoli (17:00 BST Saturday)

Napoli have enjoyed a flawless start to their league campaign by winning five straight games, and they have been winning in convincing fashion too having out-scored their opponents 19-3 during this superb run. They will slip up at some point but in no way do I expect it to be this weekend. SPAL have held Lazio to a surprise draw this season, but they have now lost each of their last three games and they have managed to score in only one of their five league games so far. Napoli should run out convincing winners on Saturday evening.

Juventus v Torino (19:45 BST Saturday)

Champions Juventus have kept pace with Napoli by also winning their first five games of the season, and they will want to keep the pressure on the Naples club by claiming all three points from Saturday night’s home game against Torino. The visitors arrive in solid form having gone five games unbeaten, collecting 11 points from a possible 15, but it I do not expect them to leave the Juventus Stadium with anything to show for their efforts. Juve are showing no signs of slowing down after years of dominance in the Italian top tier, and they should claim another three points this weekend.

Sampdoria v AC Milan (11:30 BST Sunday)

AC Milan have bounced back from the 4-1 hammering at Lazio by winning their last three games in all competitions, but if they are to keep in touch with the top two they are going to have to extend that win streak in the coming weeks. Next up for them is a trip to face Sampdoria on Sunday, and the home side go into the game in decent enough form. Marco Giampaolo’s side have drawn each of their past two games, but they are now unbeaten through their first four games of the season, collecting eight points out of 12. However, AC Milan are a clear step up in quality from the teams they have been facing and the Rossoneri should return home with all three points in the bag.

Inter Milan v Genoa (14:00 BST Sunday)

Inter Milan’s winning run finally came to an end at Bologna last weekend, but a 1-1 draw means they have now taken 13 points from their first five games and they will be very happy with that. The question is how many points will they collect when they entertain Genoa on Sunday afternoon? My answer is all three. Genoa halted a three-game losing run with a home draw against Genoa in midweek, but they have now failed to win any of their first five games and that is not the sort of form you want to be in when visiting Inter Milan. Luciano Spalletti’s men should run out winners with a fourth clean sheet of the season being the icing on the cake.

Verona v Lazio (14:00 BST Sunday)

Lazio’s unbeaten start to the season came to an end on Wednesday night – and it did not make for good viewing for the home supporters. Simone Inzaghi’s men were hammered 5-1 by Napoli and they will be desperate to bounce back at the first attempt when they return to action on Sunday afternoon. They have the ideal fixture to do just that because their hosts are Verona side that are winless through their first five games, collecting just two points and scoring only one goal. You have to like Lazio’s chances of getting back on track here and you have to expect they will do it by a couple of goals.
