Man City come into this midweek cup clash boasting a record of five wins and a draw in all competitions so far this term, which includes a 6-0 hammering of Watford at Vicarage Road at the weekend in the Premier League and Pulis conceded that City are 'on fire' ahead of the clash.

"City are on fire at the moment and everybody will expect them to be close to winning the Premier League title," he told Sky Sport.

"They are an exceptionally strong club in respect of depth, so it's going to be a tough game, but an enjoyable one."

Adding, "If he (Guardiola) makes a few changes, the players coming in will still be exceptional players, so we'll have to be right on it.

"But we'll put out a strong team and we're going to have a go at it and give it the best we've got."

The hosts can take some comfort from the fact that the last time they face Manchester City in the League Cup in September 2010 they ran out 2-1 winners at the Hawthorns.

The Baggies have been knocked out of the cup in seven of their past nine ties against Premier League opposition though, while City have progressed the fourth round in each of the past four seasons of the competition.

And they'll be without the services of Jake Livermore after the midfielder was given an extended break to aid in his recovery from feeling mentally tired.

Fellow midfielders Nacer Chadli (thigh) and Oliver Burke (hamstring) are doubtful for the clash.

Pep Guardiola, meanwhile, may hand Ilkay Gundogan his first start of the season as he continues his recovery from a long term knee injury.
