Heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury has revealed he is set to throw his hat into the political ring as he hopes to stand as an MP for Morecambe and Lunesdale.

The 39-year-old fighter has told anyone who will listen that he intends to stand and an Independent candidate for the post that is currently held by David Morris of the Conservative Party.

Fury, who was scheduled to fight Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko was for the heavyweight title on October 24, insists it is not a publicity stunt and he wants to make a difference in the town he lives

The fight with Klitschko has now been postponed with the champion suffering a calf injury and just like his record in the ring the 6 foot 9 fighter believes he will be unbeaten when it comes to politics.

He told the BBC:
“I want to make a change for the better for the place I live. I believe that I will succeed because of the influence I have over the people from the town.
"I should be elected in five years' time."

Fury, who has roots in the travelling community, believes there is too much focus on immigration and he is ready to make a difference. He added:
“What about people who are born and bred here? We need to build on the foundations we have steadily to make change.
"I feel that coming from a travelling background, I am used to politics and arguing. My opinions on travellers are different to refugees - we are not talking about people coming over from Romania - they are British people."
