FIFA have launched an inquiry to seek clarification on the deal that took French midfielder Paul Pogba from Juventus to Manchester United for a world record transfer fee last summer.

Manchester United broke the world record transfer fee last summer to bring Paul Pogba back to Old Trafford from Juventus, but now there is some controversy surrounding the deal as world governing body FIFA have launched an inquiry about the transfer.

It is believed that the inquiry will focus on the £89.3m that the Premier League club paid in order to bring the French international in and to whom this fee was paid for as there has been some confusion over the role of agent Mino Raiola in the deal.

When the 24 year old's transfer to Manchester United was confirmed, Italian club Juventus said the "economic effect" to their club was "about 72.6 million euros", whilst it is believed that the Red Devils also agreed to pay performance-related bonuses worth up to five million euros.

A new book published in Germany this week entitled The Football Leaks: The Dirty Business of Football has been quoted several times this week, stating that Raiola may have earned as much as £41m from the deal.

Raiola also helped broker deals for Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Old Trafford last summer and he's been involved with the likes of Robino, Pavel Nedved and Mario Balotelli also in the past.

The Dutch agent has refused to pass comment on the situation so far, whilst Manchester United told the BBC: "We do not comment on individual contracts. Fifa has had the documents since the transfer was concluded in August."

Pogba's weekly salary is believed to be around £165,000 a week but there are further substantial bonuses and incentives written into his contract. The Frenchman has played 48 games so far in all competitions since his return to Old Trafford, scoring seven goals.
