For whatever reason, the Titans and Sharks have been involved in multiple thrilling showdowns over the years, the last of which resulting in a 16-12 win to the Titans at Shark Park.

Could the lowly Titans possibly claim a pair of wins over the reigning premiers in 2017 when they clash again on Saturday night on the Gold Coast?

If they want to have any chance of jostling for a finals spot they will have to. Despite picking up a maximum six points from the last three weeks, including wins over the Titans and Dragons, along with the bye, Gold Coast are still languishing in 14th position on the ladder - six points adrift of the eighth-placed Eels but only two points behind ninth-placed Penrith.

Pretty much every game from here on in is a must-win for the Titans, but at least they have fond memories of their last meeting with Cronulla, giving them big confidence for this Round 19 encounter.

Cronulla meanwhile are looking to cement their position in the top four and possibly close the gap on competition leaders Melbourne.

The Sharks bounced back superbly from their heavy loss to Manly a few weeks ago when they demolished the Roosters in a 40-point blowout, while last week’s bye means they should be fresh for this contest.

Can the Titans rise to the occasion again, or will Cronulla’s overall class shine through in the end? Gold Coast’s great competitive spirit should ensure another battle, at least early on, but the Sharks were tremendous against the Roosters in their last start, and if they can produce anywhere near that level again, they should emerge triumphant.
