Wests Tigers v South Sydney Rabbitohs Preview

It seems like only yesterday when the Tigers and Rabbitohs clashed in the opening round of the 2017 NRL season, with the joint-venture outfit running away dominant 34-18 winners.

Given the superb performance from the Tigers, many were expecting the side to be sitting comfortably inside the top eight by the time the reverse fixture came around two months later.

However that hasn’t been the case at all. Jason Taylor has been sacked and Aaron Woods, James Tedesco and Mitchell Moses have all announced their departures, with the Tiger currently sitting in 14th spot on the ladder.

Things aren’t any better for the Rabbitohs however, with Michael Maguire’s side languishing in 13th position with an identical 3-6 record.

At least the Tigers have made somewhat of an impact at stages this season - they took down the Bulldogs and pushed the Sharks to the brink in their last two matches, while the Rabbitohs have barely been noticed and for good reason - they’ve done nothing special at all.

Which is why the Tigers have to start favourite on Friday night. They possess genuine game-breakers in the likes of Tedesco, Moses, Brooks and David Nofoaluma, while the Rabbitohs - with the exception of Cody Walker - haven’t really looked dangerous all season.

Add in the Tigers’ dominant recent record over the Rabbitohs into the equation, and I think Ivan Cleary’s men walk away from ANZ Stadium with the two points here.
