International Beach Volleyball action is underway in the Russian capital for the 10th-straight season with pool play action on Thursday before the elimination rounds on Friday and Saturday, which will set the stage for Sunday's medal matches.

The $150,000 event will see the winning men’s and women’s pairs in each gender share $10,000 first-place prizes.

Top-seeded Aleksandrs Samoilovs/Janis Smedins of Latvia and reigning Olympic and FIVB world champions Alison Cerutti and Bruno Oscar Schmidt of Brazil are the star attractions in the men's draw. The Latvian duo have tasted gold medal success in Moscow before, however, the Brazilians have yet to triumph in the Russian capital together.

Alison has won two gold medals in Moscow, though, alongside legendary Emanuel Rego in 2011 and 2012.

2015 winners Pablo Herrera and Adrian Gavira of Spain will also grace Russian sand this week and will be hoping for a repeat of their Vodny Stadium Beach Sports Centre success when they defeated Brazilians Evandro Goncalves and Pedro Solberg.

Talita Antunes and Larissa Franca of Brazil head the women's field followed by Olympic champions Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst. Talita and Larissa won this event in 2015 and were runners up last season to April Ross and Kerri Walsh Jennings of the United States. Ludwig and Walkenhorst took silver in 2013.
