The New York Yankees are just three games behind the Boston Red Sox in the race for the American League East title.

Back-to-back wins over Kansas City and Tampa Bay kept their division title hopes alive and they also clinched the top spot in the Wildcard Standings. The Yankees (88-69) opened their three-game home series against the Rays with a 6-1 victory on Tuesday.

Starlin Castro sparked a four-run second inning with a solo shot off Blake Snell while Aaron Hicks denied Wilson Ramos a grand slam in the first inning in his first game back after missing over three weeks with an oblique injury.

Jordan Montgomery was credited with the win after striking out five and giving up a hit and a run in six innings while Snell took the loss.

Luis Severino (13-6) is hoping to duplicate Montgomery's feat when he starts in this game. The Dominican right-hander is 2-0 in his last four starts. He was credited with their 3-2 win against Tampa Bay last April 13 and did not earn a decision in their 4-5 defeat to the Rays on May 19.

Taking the mound for Tampa Bay is right-hander Matt Andriese (5-4), who has lost his last three decisions after winning four in a row. One of those wins came against the Yankees on May 20. He did not earn a decision in their 2-3 defeat at Yankee Stadium on April 13.
