About Wimbledon

Wimbledon is widely regarded as the most prestigious tennis competition on the planet and boasts the honour of being the oldest tournament on the international circuit. It is one of four Grand Slam events and has been held at the All England Club in Wimbledon, London since 1877.

It is the only Major to be played on grass, which is perhaps another reason it stands out from the crowd.

The tournament is the third Major of the tennis season, attracts the cream of the world's players, and boasts annual attendances of almost 500,000 people. It takes place over two weeks in early July, concluding with the Ladies' and Gentlemen's Singles Final, which are traditionally held on the second Saturday and Sunday respectively.

The Wimbledon roll of honour is replete with legendary names including multiple winners Roger Federer, Pete Sampras, Boris Becker and Martina Navratilova.

Scotland's Andy Murray became the first British player since Bunny Austin in 1938 to appear in the Wimbledon Final in 2012 and though he was beaten by Roger Federer became the first Briton to lift the championship since Fred Perry in 1936 when he claimed his first title in 2013.Back to Top
