The defending champions kicked off their Pool D1 campaign with a 26-24, 25-17, 25-22 victory over Serbia on Friday. Natalia Pereira delivered 16 points while Tandara Caixeta added 10 as the Brazilians avenged their shock straight-set defeat to the Balkan side in Week 1.

"I'm really satisfied with our match, and with our technique. We had a team meeting and analysed the other team's strengths. And I think we could learn a lot about those teams as well as ourselves," Brazil head coach José Guimarães told fivb.org.

Brazil improved to 3-1 in the team standings with eight points.

Thailand, meanwhile, dropped to 0-4 after losing to Japan 19-25, 25-17, 18-25, 19-25 yesterday. Ajcharaporn Kongyot paced the Southeast Asian powerhouse with 15 points while Pleumjit Thinkaow and Wilavan Apinyapong chipped in 11 apiece.

Brazil beat Thailand in four sets in last month's Montreux Volley Masters in Switzerland in the most recent meeting between the two teams.
