Serbia and Italy fight for the Pool K1 top spot in the FIVB World Grand Prix Final Round in Nanjing on Friday.

Both teams have secured semifinal spots after beating the United States in their opening matches. The Italians, however, have three points while the Serbians have two after needing five sets to beat the Americans on Wednesday.

Behind the 32 points of teenage sensation Paola Egonu, the Italians defeated the US spikers 25-21, 22-25, 25-22, 25-21 on Thursday. The 18-year-old from Cittadella had 24 kills, six blocks and two aces.

"This match was really important but it was also very hard. We played like with a distinct style and this was vital to our victory," Italy team captain Cristina Chirichella told fivb.org.

Leading the Serbians in this match-up are Brankica Mihajlovic and Tijana Boskovic, who combined for 47 points in their 25-22, 25-17, 23-25, 18-25, 15-11 over the Americans.

The last meeting between Serbia and Italy took place in the pool stage of last year's Rio Olympics with the Balkan side posting a straight-set victory.
