Serbia were in outstanding form last weekend as they began their 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix campaign with three straight-set victories including a win over defending champions Brazil.

Brankica Mihajlovic top scored for the Olympic silver medallists in all three of those fixtures, bagging 24 points against Brazil and 58 in total across all three games. The sides meet again at Sendai City stadium at 0740 BST on Friday morning.

World champions USA also boast an unbeaten record, however, ahead of their Week 2 opener against Turkey in Macau (0900).

They'll look to Kelly Murphy to reproduce the 19 point scoring form that helped her compatriots to victory over Olympic champions China last weekend.

Dominican Republic, meanwhile, promoted to Group 1 this year, were the surprise package of Week 1 as thy scored two victories to leave them well in the hunt to progress to the final round.

Bethania de la Cruz amassed 21 points in their 3-1 victory over Japan, while Annerys Victoria Vargas Valdez and Brayelin Elizabeth Martinez both contributed 21 points in the win over Thailand.

Japan also take two victories into the second week of action and that is in large part due to the contribution of top scorer Sarina Koga, who managed 23 points in their five-set victory over Thailand and 22 in a tie-break thriller against hosts the Netherlands.

In Group 2, Poland and the Czech Republic both took a maximum nine points from the maiden weekend.

Malwina Smarzek with 15 points and Berenika Tomsia (14) were particularly impressive in a 3-0 defeat of hosts Argentina.

While Michaela Mlejnkova and Veronika Struskova both racked up 15 points to help the Czech Republic overcome Peru 3-1.

Group 3 proceedings were dominated by newcomers Hungary and France who both registered three wins from three matches.
